Matthew Taylor is a residential architect living and working in working in New York City. His days are spent detailing various architectural spaces, checking building codes and coordinating with subcontractors. His nights are spent doing photography, sketching, or catching up on the latest design philosophies. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, and after completing his Bachelor's degree at Rice University in Houston, Texas and his Master of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute(RPI) in Troy, New York now that he has returned he is rediscovering his love NYC. To complete his Visual Arts/Psychology Degree at Rice, Matthew worked mainly in photography, which is still a passion, he also has ample experience in linoleum printing, painting and hand-drawing. While attending, RPI he learned hand-drafting, various CAD programs and the Adobe Creative suite. He still enjoys making models by hand.
He has worked in various architecture firms doing both commercial and residential architecture in both the private and public sector clients. Matthew cherishes his work on the "Build it Back" which gave him first hand exposure to the effects Hurricane Sandy on New York. While it was starting to understand the potential effects of climate change before his work on this project, seeing the increase frequency and power of these hurricanes has steered him to a focus on how the built environment must respond to our rapidly changing external environment.
